Puerto Rico Se Levanta (Spanish)
Les presento la carátula de mi nuevo sencillo, “Puerto Rico Se Levanta.” Como prometido, les contaré un poco sobre la foto y porqué luce en la portada…
Con el pase del huracán María en Puerto Rico ví por los medios sociales muchas fotos de la devastación que María dejó en su arrastre a la Isla. ¡Que azotón! Como muchos desde ‘afuera’ me encontraba en un estado de shock mirando fotos de la devastación incansablemente hasta que frente a mi llegaron un par de fotos que me impactaron…fuerte. Eran fotos de lugares que yo bien conocía en mi pueblo donde los daños cambiarían el paisaje para siempre…nunca será igual. Ésta foto en la portada de mi nuevo sencillo fué una de ellas.
La foto fué tomada alto en las montañas de Utuado, mi pueblo, a solo días después del huracán. Utuado fué una de las áreas más afectadas. Al mirar esta foto noté algo muy especial y diferente a las demás. Las fotos que presentaban devastación también traían angustia, dolor, y falta de esperanza. Precisamente, eso fué lo que me impactó de esta foto, el Flamboyán aún de pié, sin hojas, humillado, y achantado, pero todavía en su puesto como buen soldado vigilando sobre su pueblo…con esperanza de volverse a levantar. Así veo mi Puerto Rico. Asi veo mi gente. Aunque nos dieron fuerte, nos vamos a levantar.
La imagen no fué captada por un periodista ni con cámara professional. Fué captada por mi tía (Wilma Rodríguez de Orama) con su teléfono móvil frente a su casa en su batey. Aprovechó un momento donde logró conectarse con su móvil para dejarme saber que estaba bien, y me la envió porque ella sabe lo que significa para mi. El día que me llegó la foto ya estaba en el estudio grabando “Puerto Rico Se Levanta.” Al enseñarle la foto a mis compañeros ya todos lo sabíamos, esa era la foto que representaba nuestra canción y tenía que ir en la portada.
Ese Flamboyán que ven en la foto es el mismo donde mis hijos llegaron admirar, subir y retratarse. Hasta llegaron bajar por la jalda que vigila en yagua. Imagínense el orgullo que sentí al ver que el Flamboyán, aunque completamente desalojado, todavía estaba de pié. Imaginar que algún dia muy pronto volverá a florecer. Volverá como buen soldado con uniforme nuevo y con medallas en su orgulloso pecho representando las cicatrices de lo que ha vivido. Volverá mas grandioso que nunca. Nuestra gente lo hará igual…¡Puerto Rico Se Levanta!

I give you the cover of my new single, " Puerto Rico gets up." as promised, I'll tell you a little about the picture and why it looks on the cover... With the pass of hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico I saw on social media many photos of the devastation Mary left in her drag to the island. Let it go! Like many from 'out' I was in a state of shock looking at pictures of the devastation tirelessly until I came up with a couple of photos that hit me... strong. They were pictures of places I well knew in my village where the damage would change the landscape forever... it will never be the same. This picture on the cover of my new single was one of them. The Photo was taken high in the mountains of utuado, my village, just days after the hurricane. Utuado was one of the most affected areas. Looking at this picture I noticed something very special and different to the others. Photos of devastation also brought anguish, pain, and lack of hope. Precisely, that was what struck me from this photo, the flamboyan still standing, no leaves, humiliated, and milksop, but still in his position as a good soldier watching over his people... hoping to get up again. So I see my Puerto Rico. So I see my people. Even though we got strong, we're gonna get up. The image was not captured by a journalist or professional camera. It was captured by my aunt (Wilma Rodríguez de orama) with her mobile phone in front of her house in her batey. He took advantage of a moment where he managed to connect with his cellphone to let me know he was okay, and he sent it to me because she knows what it means to me. The day I got the picture was already in the studio recording " Puerto Rico gets up." by showing the picture to my partners we all knew that, that was the picture that represented our song and had to go on the cover. That flamboyan you see in the picture is the same where my children came to admire, rise and portray. They even came down by the khaldah watching in yagua. Imagine the pride I felt to see that the flamboyan, though completely evicted, was still standing. To imagine that someday soon it will bloom again. He will return as a good soldier in a new uniform and with medals in his proud chest representing the scars of what he has lived. He'll be better than ever. Our people will do it the same...
